UPDATE: Police identify five-year-old girl found dead in Martinsville home Monda

Firefighters did not detect carbon monoxide when they arrived at the home where where the child was found Monday morning.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -

Police have released the name of the five-year-old girl who was found dead in a Martinsville home Monday.

Aah Layah Martin was found unresponsive at a home on Dunlap Street when officers arrived Monday morning, and she was pronounced dead at 8:13 a.m. 

A 2-year-old was also taken to the hospital for a medical emergency after being found in the Dunlap Street home.

A 5-year-old girl is dead and a 2-year-old is being treated for a medical emergency after the two children were found unresponsive Monday morning in Martinsville.

The Martinsville Police Department was called to 11 Dunlap Street around 7:05 a.m. Monday morning for a report of two unresponsive children.

When officers arrived a 5-year-old was unresponsive and a 2-year-old was having a medical emergency. The 5-year-old girl was pronounced dead at 8:13 a.m.

The 2-year-old girl was flown to a Roanoke hospital.

The Martinsville Police Department responded to 11 Dunlap Street at 7:05 am in reference to a 911 call of two unresponsive children. The child’s ages are 5 and 2 and both are female. The 5 year old was unresponsive and the two year old was having a medical emergency. The five year old was pronounced dead at 8:13 am and the two year old was flown to Roanoke Hospital. The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released when it is available.
