The teenager who died Sunday in an accident in Amherst County was riding on a stolen motorcycle, according to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office.
Zachary Trent, 18, of Monroe was killed in the accident. He was a passenger on the motorcycle. William Clements, 19, of Amherst, was driving the motorcycle. He is hospitalized at Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Charges have not been filed yet.
The accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Dairy Lane and Route 29 Business, just south of Sweet Briar College.
According to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office deputies tried to stop Clements for reckless driving before the accident, but he sped off. Officers lost sight of the motorcycle near Sweet Briar College and later learned of the accident at the intersection of Dairy Lane and Route 29 South.
The motorcycle was reported stolen Thursday from the Coolwell Road area of Amherst County.
The accident is still under investigation.

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into the single vehicle motorcycle crash that occurred Sunday, July 13, 2014 at approximately 1743.
The crash resulted in the death of Zachary B. Trent, 18 of Monroe. The driver, William W. Clements, 19 of Amherst is still hospitalized at Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Prior to the crash an Amherst County Sheriff’s Office deputy had attempted to stop Clements for reckless driving. Clements disregarded several opportunities to stop the motorcycle, accelerating at high rate of speed. The deputy and officers from the Amherst Town Police Department lost sight of Clements near Sweet Briar College. Law Enforcement discovered the crash at the intersection of Dairy Lane and Bus Rt. 29 south.
The motorcycle that Clements was riding had been reported stolen on July 10thfrom the Coolwell Road area of Amherst County.
The crash is still under investigation by both the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office and the James River Regional Crash Team. No determination on charges has been made.

A teenager is dead after a motorcycle crash in Amherst County.
18-year-old Zachary Trent was riding on that motorcycle with another teen on Sunday afternoon.
That's when they wrecked at the intersection of Dairy Lane and Route 29 Business, just south of Sweet Briar College.
Police tell WDBJ7 those teens were not students at the college.
An ambulance took them to Lynchburg General Hospital where Trent later died.
There's no word on how the other teen is doing.
