The University of Virginia is investigating the school's historic ties to slavery.
The school president has recruited 27 faculty, staff, students, and community members to be part of the Commission on Slavery and the University.
The group will help to coordinate research at the university and find ways to educate the general public on their research.
Last fall, archaeologists found 67 unmarked grave shafts just north of the University Cemetery that officials said were probably those of slaves.
