Virginia Tech professor receives grant for smoking addiction research
A Virginia Tech addiction expert received a 3-point-2 million dollar grant from the National Institute of Drug Abuse to help people quit smoking.
It's one of the largest grants awarded to Tech's Carilion Research Institute in Roanoke.
The grant was awarded to one of the university's professors, Warren Bickel.
Bickel hopes to find out why a smoker's brain ignores the long- term benefits of quitting for the instant gratification of having a cigarette.
