ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. -

Power has been restored to Appalachian Power customers after a bird caused a power outage for about 1,000 customers in Roanoke County Friday.

==================

Appalachian Power crews say a bird, not weather, caused a power outage Friday morning in Roanoke County.

About 1,000 customers in the Peters Creek Road area of Roanoke County lost service around 7:30 a.m.  Heavy rain was falling in the area at that time, leading crews to initially think the outage may have been weather-related.  They later said a bird came in contact with a piece of equipment.

Appalachian Power said crews hope to have service restored by Noon.
