This week in Gretna, Coach Kevin Saunders and the Hawks tried to score a 2nd huge win over a Seminole District team this season, having knocked off Brookville in week 1.
Saunders has plenty in common with Pioneers head coach Brad Bradley, including the fact that both are former head coaches at William Campbell.
Through two games both Gretna and Heritage undefeated. The Hawks were coming off a bye week and so far this season, their defense has allowed only 15 points per game. But Heritage's offense, led by Austin Fitzgerald and Frankie Hickson has been putting up an average of 50 points per game through two contests.
On the first play from scrimmage, Frankie Hickson goes 76 yards into the house for the touchdown. The extra point failed but Hertiage took a 6-0 lead.
Gretna answered Dyon Rosser to Matt Glass for the touchdown and the Hawks go up 7-6.
Gretna would add on to it. Rosser to Glass again makin it 14-9 and they took a 14-12 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Kameron Harsley had a 50 plus yard carry into Gretna territory as he punched it in for a score of 18-14, Pioneers on top.
But Gretna answered again. Rosser finds Chris Hall for the touchdown. Hawks go back on top.
But Hertiage would step up. Austin Fitzgerald hit Tyron Tracy who barreled down to the two yard line. Hickson would punch it in for the touchdown.
There was another shot for Gretna but Rosser was picked off. Heritage punched it in two more times as they went on to win 39-21.
