It will be just Tech's third game against a Southern Conference opponent in the past thirty years. The Catamounts have lost 11 straight games.

BLACKSBURG, Va. -

Saturday night Virginia Tech gave up an interception return for a score, a punt return for another, and a kickoff return for a touchdown in a loss to Alabama.  It was the first time in the Frank Beamer era as head coach, that the Hokies had allowed three non-offensive TD's in a game.

But some changes are on the way for this weekend's home opener against Western Carolina.

After watching Alabama's Christion Jones carve up his special teams units on a punt return and kickoff return, Frank Beamer has made some changes, at the urging of many as five defensive starters who campaigned to be placed on the kick coverage teams starting this weekend.

"A lot of guys actually stepped up and met with Coach Beamer and let him know that they would like to participate," said linbacker Tariq Edwards. "Just because we've been all about Beamer Ball and we kind of lost that in the first game."
