Lynchburg, Va. -

Last season Liberty started the season (0-4), but winning six of the last seven games could certainly help the Flames carry-over some momentum to this season.

Liberty finished in a tie on top of the Big South Conference last year but lost the tie-break to Coastal Carolina-- the pre-season pick to repeat as champions. But with 18 returning starters for Liberty this season, they could certainly contend again. The Flames open-up against Kent State, and the team knows they'll need to have a strong August to make sure they get off on the right foot and set the tone for the season.

"We’ve got another comparable strong schedule is what I would say,” said Turner Gill, Liberty Head Coach. “We've got some very solid opponents, very good opponents and so we're going to have to play very, very well early as we do play some very quality football teams. Our guys are really anxious to go out and do some great things to turn around this year and have a whole season and not just maybe the last half."

"Last year the first week of practice was more of a learning phase even going through Spring ball and everything,” said Nick Sigmon, Liberty Linebacker. “I knew coming out here today it feels like we're at week 10 already. We've got everything down pat. Everybody's playing full speed. Nobody's having to really think that much because we already got the game plan down."
