North Carolina State running back Shadrach Thornton is due in court later this month after being charged with assault on a female.
First-year coach Dave Doeren said in a statement Monday that Thornton didn't live up to the high standards that he has for the Wolfpack players.
Thornton was arrested June 6 by Wake County sheriff's deputies and charged with misdemeanor assault on a female. Doeren says he suspended Thornton immediately after learning of the arrest and says Thornton "had to earn his way back into team activities."
The sophomore practiced with the team over the weekend and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 22.
Thornton had a team-best 694 yards rushing in 2012 even though he didn't play in the first three games.
