The Subway Commonwealth Games officially get underway Friday night with the opening ceremonies at the Roanoke Civic Center.
But first, the Boys and Girls Club of Roanoke had a chance to meet the Friday night's guest speaker.

Team USA fencer, Tim Morehouse stopped by Friday afternoon where he fenced with Roanoke Mayor, David Bowers along with several of the boys and girls in attendance.

He spoke to the kids about several topics including: pursuing your dreams, being a role model for others and leading a healthy, active lifestyle.

Morehouse won a Silver Medal in Beijing back in 2008.

The Commonwealth Games will attract roughly 9,000 athletes this year across the state.
