Virginia Tech embracing underdog role

It isn't often you get the opportunity to play the number one team in the country. But that's the challenge Virginia Tech now faces with Alabama in just four days.

BLACKSBURG, Va. -

Jack Tyler says he sees “a dog ready to pounce.” Everyone else sees the Hokies as a 20-point underdog to the Crimson Tide.

But, the Hokies are using the underdog mentality as motivation.

“We’re the ones expected to get beat by 21 or whatever it is. So that makes it basically easier in that aspect,” said Quarterback Logan Thomas. “We don’t expect Alabama come out dead but they don’t expect us to be under the radar”

Virginia Tech can’t back down. Guard Andrew Miller took the disrespect in the Vegas odds to a deeper level, citing his former wrestling coach at Virginia Tech, Kevin Dresser when it comes to big challenges. “Never take a back seat to anybody. That’s something I never do and that’s something that’s embedded in my heart.”

The ACC is just 3-19 against non-conference top ten opponents over the last five years.

Kickoff from Atlanta is set for 5:30 Saturday.
