BLACKSBURG, Va. -

Virginia Tech has named the leader of its women’s golf team.

The Hokies announced Monday that Tazewell native Carol Green Robertson will be the program’s first coach. The women’s golf program will begin playing in the fall of 2015.

Robertson spent the past two seasons as the coach at Old Dominion University. She became the head coach at ODU after spending one season as an assistant.

“We are extremely pleased to name Carol Green Robertson as our first-ever head women’s golf coach,” director of athletics Jim Weaver wrote in a news release. “She is regarded as one of the best and brightest young coaches in collegiate golf. She has done a tremendous job in just two years at Old Dominion, guiding that program to new highs. She is not only an outstanding coach and teacher, but her skill on the course and as an accomplished student helps her relate to today’s student-athletes. Carol is the perfect fit for our budding program.”

Robertson led the Monarchs to five tournament titles in her two seasons as coach.
